A prescription-strength topical calcineurin inhibitor ointment indicated for treating moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) when other treatments are insufficient.

Protopic contains tacrolimus 0.03%, which modulates the local immune reaction in skin by inhibiting calcineurin, reducing inflammation, itch, and redness associated with atopic dermatitis. It is used as a second-line, short-term and noncontinuous therapy, particularly in sensitive areas (face, neck, skin folds) where corticosteroid use may be limited.
